2024 Asian Heart Rhythm Association Awards
The Asian Heart Rhythm Association recognized experts' academic achievements and professional accomplishments to select the 2024 awardees, including the Outstanding Contribution Award, the Outstanding Chinese Electrophysiologist Award, the Outstanding Young Chinese Electrophysiologist Award, the Outstanding Young Scholar in Clinical Research, and the Outstanding Young Scholar in Basic Research.
Outstanding Contribution Award of Asian Heart Rhythm Association
Akihiko Nogami (Japan)
Director of Tokyo Heart Rhythm Hospital and Head of Arrhythmia Research Institute at Tokyo Heart Rhythm Hospital. Graduated from Nagasaki University School of Medicine in 1982 and earned his Ph.D. from Tokyo Medical and Dental University Graduate School in 1988. Between 2013 and 2023, served as a Professor of Cardiology at the University of Tsukuba. His research focuses on clinical electrophysiology, especially ventricular arrhythmias, with over 450 published articles and more than 13,000 citations. He is recognized as a leader in ventricular tachycardia, electrocardiography, and interventional cardiology. He has held positions such as former director of the Japanese Circulation Society (2014-2020), former president of the Japanese Heart Rhythm Society (2018-2020), and former editor-in-chief of Journal of Arrhythmia.
Yang Pingzhen (Zhujiang Hospital, Southern Medical University)
Currently the Director of Cardiology at Zhujiang Hospital of Southern Medical University, Ph.D. advisor, and postdoctoral research advisor. In late 1999, she pioneered the use of a three-dimensional mapping system (CARTO system) in China for treating complex atrial/ventricular arrhythmias. She was also one of the first in China to perform radiofrequency ablation for organic ventricular tachycardia with ECMO assistance and to extract infected pacemaker electrodes. She has vast experience in pediatric arrhythmia intervention and has conducted over 30,000 surgeries across China. Professor Yang holds multiple academic positions and has earned various honors for her contributions to China’s pacing and electrophysiology fields.
Yuan Yue (Beijing Children’s Hospital, Capital Medical University)
Former Director of Cardiology and the Heart Center at Beijing Children’s Hospital, Capital Medical University; chief physician, master's advisor, and professor. With more than 30 years dedicated to pediatric cardiovascular disease treatment, she has overseen over 3,000 pediatric radiofrequency ablation cases. Yuan has published over 50 articles, with more than 30 in SCI journals, and has authored numerous books and academic contributions. Her leadership has achieved zero-radiation in pediatric radiofrequency ablation, advancing this standard nationwide.
